Your Homes Hum Our Songs – The Academy’s Project at Expo 2025 in Osaka

The project “Your Homes Hum Our Songs,” carried out under the program of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) – International Scientific Event at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Kansai, is entering its next stage.
This initiative explores the complex relationships between place, identity, and memory. It asks questions about the conditions for forming and sustaining bonds with one’s “own place” as well as experiences of migration - both forced and voluntary - in times of rapid change. The project also addresses issues of alienation, spiritual homelessness, and the loss of cultural roots that accompany various forms of migration.
The first phase took place in April 2025 in Mino (Gifu Prefecture) - a small yet remarkable town famous for its 1,300-year tradition of producing Mino Washi paper, recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. In collaboration with Mino Cultural Hall, we organized exhibitions at Yoshida Gallery, Nipponia (Collage Gallery and Daigokuden), and Matsuhisa House. These were accompanied by workshops titled “Paper and Ink – Migrations of Color,” led by Yukako Manabe and Mei Ginzan (Tokyo University of the Arts), as well as Anna Kołodziejczyk and Kamil Moskowczenko (Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław).
The project has now moved to Tokyo, where it is being presented simultaneously at Aizumi Art Museum and Yuga Gallery (Tokyo University of the Arts). The official opening of the exhibition at Aizumi Art Museum will take place on August 30.
