International Printmaking Conference. Wrocław 2026

We invite you to participate in the International Printmaking Conference. Wrocław 2026 Print Media in Contemporary Art. Between Materiality and Immateriality, which will take place on 15–16 January 2026. The event is organised by the Faculty of Graphics and Media Art at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Fine Art and Design in Wrocław.
Printmaking, from the very beginning of its history associated with workshop practice and the reproduction of an image from a matrix, is now undergoing a profound re-evaluation. This shift results not only from distancing itself from the historically established definition mentioned above but also, above all, from the increasing abandonment of physical presence. In recent years, its creators, who eagerly replaced traditional paper prints with 3D printed objects, generative graphics, or graphic works incorporated into installations often combined with performative forms, are now creating works existing solely in virtual space.
This re-evaluation has far-reaching consequences. It involves not only the need to formulate a new definition of the medium but also raises more and more questions about the status of the original, the creative gesture, and the very notion of the medium itself.
We invite artists and art theorists to participate in the discussion of these issues. We believe that comparing different artistic and research perspectives will contribute to a public debate on the role, condition, place, and future of contemporary printmaking.
Conferences, symposia, and exhibitions organized in recent years by the Wrocław Academy have provided opportunities to present prints, document creative processes, and showcase films and texts by artists who move across disciplines, use alternative materials, tools, and technologies, engage in dialogue with space, and present unconventional approaches to matrices and substrates.
We hope you will join us in exploring these fascinating issues and inspiring the artistic community worldwide.
