We would like to invite you to 52nd International Symposium on Essential Oils (ISEO 2022) and the opening of the accompanying exhibition AromaArt, which will take place on 4 September at 4 pm at Concordia Design.

It is said that you can smell love, money, joy, luxury, but... also emotions and negative events have their own secret fragrance codes. Literary language, not without reason, gives us quite a spectrum of possibilities when it comes to the use of terms related to scents. Why? Because the sense of smell is one of the key human senses which, along with the senses of taste, touch, sight and hearing, enables humans to perceive, experience and fully perceive the external world. The sense of smell is the most important in remembering the most significant moments of our life, because it is thanks to this sense that our brain is able to recall them even many years later. The sense of smell is an inspiration for many creators, artists, visionaries and scientists. We like pleasant smells, but we also appreciate those that can warn us of danger. That is why it is worth exploring the rich and inspiring sphere of smell more closely - immersing ourselves in its myriad combinations.

The International Symposium on Essential Oils (ISEO 2022), is a meeting that has been held since 1969 in various European countries, with the aim of maintaining and developing cooperation between scientists to advance research and development in the science of essential oils and their constituents. This time, the symposium will take place from 4-7 September 2022 in Wrocław, Poland, at Concordia Design in Wrocław, Poland.

The symposium will cover topics related to essential oils, also in broad terms - concerning natural products (from breeding, cultivation, analysis, biogenesis and chemistry to biological activity and use).

As part of the ISEO 2022 International Symposium, the Enterprise Europe Network centre operating at the Wrocław Technology Transfer Centre of the Wrocław University of Technology is organising B2B meetings aimed at finding partners for potential cooperation on foreign markets. The meetings are dedicated to entities from various countries representing the cosmetics, medical, pharmaceutical, food, household chemicals and cleaning products industries.

Aromaart

As part of the events accompanying the ISEO 2022 International Symposium, an exhibition of artists associated with the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław will be held. In the Kamienica Room, in the Concordia Design building, it will be possible to see works inspired by the sense of smell by, among others: Paweł Czekański, Agata Danielak-Kujda, Ladies of the Virgin (Munka Bączyk and Agnieszka Jarząb), Anna Juchnowicz, Mariusz Kosiba, Agnieszka Leśniak-Banasiak, Beata Mak-Sobota, Kamil Moskowczenko, Marta Płonka, Wojciech Pukocz, Marek Ruszkiewicz, Norman Smużniak, Justyna Żak.

The visual interpretation of the sense of smell and fragrance enhanced by the scents selected by individual artists will create an amazing sensation of synergy between the senses, which will allow for a different (interesting) perception of art and visual experience. The exhibition will be open from 4-7 September from 10 am to 6 pm; admission is free.

During the opening of the International Symposium and the AromaArt exhibition, on 4 September at 4 p.m., there will be a talk and performance by the world-famous perfumer Clio Vidal, who will talk about the art of creating scents, aromas and perfumes as well as the processes involved.

Curator Dr Marta Płonka
