Sobota Stanisław
He graduated from the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław in 1996, studying in the studio of Professor Zbigniew Horbowy. In the same year, he began working as an assistant to Professor Ludwik Kiczura in the Glass Design Studio. Since 2008, he has led the Studio of Fundamentals of Functional Glass. In the academic year 2005/2006, he served as Head of the Department of Glass. In May 2017, he was awarded the degree of Habilitated Doctor.
In his artistic practice, Stanisław Sobota focuses on the sculptural qualities of glass, primarily using kiln-forming techniques and creating compositions fused in moulds. His work explores a wide range of themes transformed into sculptural forms with strong visual and expressive impact, including portrait, landscape, architecture, ships, and birds. Colour plays a crucial role in his work; combined with the unique transparency of glass as a sculptural material, it gives his artworks their distinctive character. Often, colour determines the reception and expressive power of the piece—an aspect the artist skilfully exploits. When developing a theme, he typically creates several or even a dozen objects within a single series in order to select the one that best fulfils his artistic intentions.
