Exhibition of drawings in charcoal in the Gallery Lingua

Announcement
Published 19 Oct 2016

Students of the fifth year of painting and sculpture: Justyna “Baśnik” Andrzejewska, Monika Polak and Paweł Baśnik from the workshop of drawing 207 conducted by prof. Wojtek Lupa are authors of works presented in the Gallery Lingua (the venue of the Institute of Foreign Languages).

The common feature of their drawings is a workshop skill in the approach to the medium of charcoal and elaborated composition. Monika Polak traces changes in the portrayed characters, shows how the surface of the body and texture changes, collapses and decomposes. She shifts elements and disturbs the surface continuity and stability of figurative forms, thus making faces even more alienated and helpless. Justyna Andrzejewska presents sharp, jagged shapes and lines, creates the depths of space by means of value gradation - her works are landscapes abstracted by fluctuating rhythm; always presented in a vertical format. Paul Baśnik seeks confrontation with the time passed; with Old Masters or old photographs. These known and as if frozen images he transforms by means of cutting, tearing and blurring. Not without reason these works form a cycle called Post Mortem. The students are winners of national and international competitions, among others: International Student Drawing Triennal (Justyna), Arts Confrontation (Monika), International Drawing Competition in Nałęczów (Paweł).
