25th anniversary of the Faculty of Graphics and Media Art
Ladies and Gentlemen,
October 2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Graphics and Media Art. To celebrate this anniversary, the faculty members have proposed a number of artistic events and activities, which will be presented on this website. Here you will also find invitations to participate in upcoming events related to the 25th anniversary of the Faculty of Graphics and Media Art.
Below, we present a brief history of our Faculty and a list of past events within the jubilee celebrations:
1996 – Establishment of the Faculty of Graphics. It consisted of the Department of Graphics and the Department of Visual Knowledge. Prof. Eugeniusz Smoliński is appointed Dean of the Faculty.
1997 – The Council of the Graphics Faculty was granted the right to conduct I and II degree programs in graphics. Establishment of the Intermedia Printmaking Studio in the Department of Visual Knowledge.
1999 – The Graphics Department transformed into two departments: Department of Printmaking and Graphic Design. Appointment of Prof. Jan Jaromir Aleksiun as the Dean of the Faculty of Graphics.
2002 – Commencement of classes in the new premises of the Academy at F. Modrzewskiego Street. Within the Graphic Design Studio, Appointment of 2-year supplementary MA studies (The 2-year BA Graphic Design Studio was established in 1995. It was the first undergraduate course at the Academy).
2003 – Establishment of extramural first-degree studies in Graphic Design, specialization: Photography and Multimedia. So far, situated in the Graphic Design Department, Photography Studio becomes a part of the Visual Knowledge Department.
2005 – Appointment of prof. Ludwik Zelaziewicz as the dean of the Faculty of Graphics.
2005 – Chair of Visual Knowledge renamed to Chair of Media Arts.
2006 – The full-time studies at the major in graphics have been divided into three specializations: graphic arts (with the major subject of graphic arts), Graphic Design (with the majors: Graphic Design and Professional Drawing) and Media Art (with the majors: Intermedia Graphics and Photography). Establishing part-time second-cycle studies in photography and multimedia.
2007 – The major in media art begins. The Senate of the E. Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, upon the motion of the Faculty of Graphics grants the title of doctor honoris causa to Tadeusz Różewicz.
2008 – Renaming of the Faculty of Graphics to the Faculty of Graphics and Media Art.
2012 – Appointment of Prof. Jacek Szewczyk as Dean of the Faculty of Graphics and Media Art. Opening of a new scientific and didactic facility of the Academy - Centre for Applied Arts, Innovation Centre, located at 19/21 Traugutta Street, which houses the Faculty's studios. Establishment of the full-time, third degree studies in graphics and media art at the Faculty.
2013 – Establishment of postgraduate studies: Interdisciplinary Printmaking in English and post-production of photography, film and television (conducted until 2015). Creation of specialization in photography within the media arts major.
2014 – Establishment of three-year, part-time doctoral studies in English at the Faculty, change of the name of the Department of Graphics Art to the Department of Printmaking.
2015 – The Senate of the E. Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, upon the proposal of the Faculty of Graphics and Media Art, conferred the title of doctor honoris causa on Mikael Kihlman.
2018 – The launching of a full-time interdisciplinary doctoral studies with English as the language of instruction and part-time inter-faculty II degree studies with English as the language of instruction.
2020 – Appointment of Marek Grzyb, Assoc. Prof., as the Dean of the Faculty of Graphics and Media Arts.
