Fire...heat...touch...history

Creating artistic ceramics and glass is a continuous experiment with milligrams of raw material, millimeters of matter, millimeters of reagents and the application of undercoats, glazes, colour coatings of glazes, gilding, silvering... All procedures are performed by the craftsman and artist himself, using procedures developed for generations, or experimenting with matter, texture and colour.

We are tested by fire, in whose glow and warmth during many hours of watching over the firing process, we verify our recipes, technique and talent.

In the academic year 2013/2014, a new field of study was established at the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass: Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art, so in addition to the art academies in Warsaw, Krakow and Torun, the E. Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw have become the fourth centre for educating conservators and restorers of works of art, but as the only one in the Conservation and Restoration of Ceramics and Glass.

Our studies give a chance to become a ceramic artist and conservator of the works of former masters of stained-glass, porcelain, ceramic architectural detail, ceramic and glass unique sculpture.

The interdisciplinary study programme combines artistic, humanistic and natural sciences knowledge. We offer students  the opportunity to study in a master-student relationship, as the student group consists of only eight people. During the studies we organize professional internships, field trips and open-air events in historic buildings. Since the third year of studies, students participate in the European scholarship programme "Erasmus".

Professional perspectives: the diploma allows for independent conservation and restoration activities or work in a team of professionals involved in the conservation and restoration of works of art. The scientific conservation of ceramics and glass is a new field of knowledge, requiring cooperation with specialists in many ancillary sciences, and the professionals in this profession combine the talent of an artist with that of a ceramics and glass maker.

Oor Academy gives a chance to obtain such qualifications in a unique and sought-after specialisation on the art market. The lecturers are specialists in many scientific disciplines.

The process of substantive building of the specialization took many years, based on the scientific, didactic and artistic experience of academic teachers for years connected with the Academy and its Faculty of Ceramics and Glass, University and Polytechnic in Wrocław.
