October 28, 2016 – January 8, 2017 opening: October 28, 2016, 7pm Dizajn gallery BWA Wrocław 2-4 Świdnicka Street

he Progress of Works is an exhibition prepared by the students of the Graphic Design Department within the Faculty of Graphic Arts at the Wrocław Fine Arts Academy. The showcase will be created under professional guidance of Łukasz Paluch (AnoMalia Studio) in collaboration with Joanna Jopkiewicz (Grupa Projektor). It will include a set of works created by their former students and specifically tailored to suit the purpose of the exhibition.

The exhibition consists of the works created by the students from previous years, but it also represents a platform which shows the whole process of teaching and mentoring as well as the vision that is consistently implemented by Paluch and Jopkiewicz. We will exhibit the works created by our former students, including graduate diplomas. The key factor, however, is that we entrust this year's students with the selection of works. They will have to arrange them on their own in order to complete the classes – says Joanna Jopkiewicz. We want to emphasize the process of learning and responsibility that's connected with the profession of designer. We offer our students the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity, but it is also obviously a big challenge for them. They will have to independently determine the shape of the exhibition – she adds.

The process of designing the exhibition will be open to the public since the first decade of October 2016, and one of its elements will be free classes for all interested in the history of graphic design. The exhibition will be created collectively by the students who will analyse and carry out the tasks under professional academic guidance. The visitors will be given a chance to see various projects, such as packaging design, posters, publications, and a broad choice of visual identification projects.

Łukasz Paluch and Joanna Jopkiewicz derive from the Faculty of Graphic Arts led until 2016 by professor Eugeniusz Smoliński. Over the last few years, they have created both an original educational programme and a structure of the new corporate identity workshops, which took place this academic year. In 2016, the team was joined by Marta Przeciszewska. The idea of the workshops is to focus on issues related to corporate identity in graphic design. The experimental formula assumes regular tasks proposed to students and matching them to the dynamics of the group.

The Progress of Works is not only a presentation of the academic endeavours of young designers, but foremost it is an interesting example of creative education of students. Generally speaking, teamwork is the most important factor for us, so we discontinued individual consultations – says Joanna Jopkiewicz. Students learn from each other. Additionally they develop the ability to defend their own ideas and present their achievements in public. Graphic design, as a profession, has changed in recent years. Our studio has responded to this change – says Łukasz Paluch.

Future graphic designers can observe and learn from the duo of Wrocław-based professionals, the authors of many award-winning and implemented projects. We remain active in the labour market, which is why we can share our experiences with the students – say the designers. The idea behind the whole project is to show the works created by the students, but in a way that simultaneously reveals the nature of the design process itself – it is actually a great opportunity to get to know the tools required for educating future graphic designers in practice.
