The course of English for the students of Interior Architecture and Design includes the specialist language in the field of Design. The course lasts four 45min lessons a week for four semesters.
In the first three semesters the students learn the vocabulary connected with interior architecture and industrial design, as well as the terms and expressions connected with studying and work placements in an English-speaking environment.
During the classes we use the original textbook "Design English" written by the tutor, Beata Ludwiczak, as well as the grammar book "English Grammar in Use" by R. Murphy. The classes are complemented by the BBC film "Design English" and "authentic materials". The general English competence required to enroll in this course is not very demanding; the Intermediate level is recommended, however, students with the Pre-Intermediate level have done very well so far (there are two groups, with more and less advanced language skills).
In the fourth semester the students learn the language of other artistic disciplines, the language of painting, sculpture, graphic arts, ceramics, glass and stage design.
Upon completion of the course the student possesses knowledge of English which enables him/her to study at a foreign institution as well as take up a designer's job in an English-speaking environment.
